I spent the afternoon with my friend Emma at her family place on a local pond. I was lucky enough to spend time with her cousin, husband, and their young (and adorable) daughter who are up from Pennsylvania.
I am afraid of babies. They are so innocent and breakable. I am klutzy and forgetful. I tend to stay a far distance until I can convince myself that I won’t do any harm, at least not intentionally! When Dea left her with Emma and I spent the time taking pictures and keeping her from trying to eat electronics.
I really enjoyed talking to Dea afterwards. Her and her husband have agreed to try and get all of as much toxins as possible out of the house before lil ell starts walking. They also have an awesome garden and purchase most produce and the like from local Amish farmers. Oh hey, you are amazing.
We also talked the difference in attitude when Mass is compared to Penn, which I don’t normally think about. In Mass there is definitely a focus on money: having, saving, or needing money. In my opinion, time is money for family. You can’t replace that. I hope that if I am ever given the opportunity I am going to be able to derive money for from time with my family.

When hitting the theater what is your normal routine? I like to be there early, check out the displays and have a little mind over matter battle whether or not to buy popcorn.
Did that happen Tuesday? Oh no. Rose, my younger sister, and I ran like mad to sit down just as the previews began showing. We were seeing the newest Harry Potter flick with a good friend Jess, which turned out to be really enjoyable. Some laughs and tears to be had as usual. There is a rumor that I get a little too involved in movies. It’s true and can be embarrassing when your blubbering watching the 1st Pokeman Movie, but I’ve come to except and expect it.
On Wednesday evening I worked on making invites to Rose’s high school graduation party while partially watching Zathura. I love making ads and invitation. I’d like to take this time to thank my elementary school science projects and residence life events because without them I wouldn’t have this love. It also has gotten me following some excellent design blogs, which has led to some equally excellent DIY blogs. Science projects to apartment designs? Hey tomato potato my friends.
One that I am very addicted to is Design*Sponge. Gorgeous pictures, reviews, DIY projects, and tons of things design related. There are definitely things that go over my head but overall a great site to check out!
Also my kitty is quite darling.

I’m on a Finding Nemo quoting kick since Joe took me fishing for the first time this weekend. To be honest, it was the second excursion but on the initial trip we spent the whole time trying not to be blown to shore every 15 minutes. This time the wind was our friend and the sun was beaming. I managed to tangle my fishing line pretty much every time I attempted to cast. He tanned, I got less white. No fish were caught but it is my hope that some little fishes played the “touch the butt” game with Pop Pop’s boat.
Also major props to Vino’s in Woonsocket for introducing Joe to French onion soup.
He made some to go with the pan-seared salmon he made us for dinner. However, it should be noted that: 1) it is not a good idea to cut the Panara French bread too far in advance as it will disappear fast before it is even used for the soup, 2) leftover wine is delicious. It was a really tasty meal and I look forward to making him dinner soon. I will avoid going to extreme blandness or spicyness, which is my unfortunate forte and aim for midway for that upcoming crack at cooking.

Home today. Doing my best to continue my failed attempts of cleaning my sister’s and my temporary room. The driving force behind this much needed cleaning is that it will leave me room to decorate the room for my sister’s happy return from her summer ballet intensive.
The summer has been surprisingly devoid of my post title and blog, at least in the New England area. I joked at one point that I didn’t remember moving to Forks, Washington. (This is in reference to the Twilight Saga, where it is cloudy 99.9% of the time and infested with teenage angst, werewolves and vampires) I’m oddly feeling grateful for this quiet gray summer. It definitely makes those sunny days very bright. It also gives me time to start brainstorming and fiddle with things.
+ Poked about blindly with wordpress.org and realized I really need to be careful what I do (see my text-less header).
+ Ordered this book
so that I can get started on my line up of homemade cleaners for body and home (found via Apartment Therapy Re-Nest). It looks adorable and very informative.
+ Worked on lists of to-dos and needs for the staff offices of South campus for the upcoming semester.
+ Finally made a dent in Joe’s surprise present to me, In Defense of Food. Michael Pollan (the author of which also penned The Omnivore’s Dilemma) is doing a fantastic job building on my mounting need to change the way I associate food and nutrition.
Looking forward to a bike ride on my newly acquired bike my father painstakingly refurbished. Unfortunately, I’m a short gal so it’s a little struggle to get use to the height being a bit out of my stumpy range. Also I’m looking forward to a skyping date with my buddy who’s currently abroad in Spain!

Here goes. Looks like my summer goals are finally being acted upon.
4. start a blog: one that revolves around being a college/post college student, being green/locally friendly, a crafty individual, and excerpts from the life I prefer to dive into everyday (even when some of those days require me to be thrown in).
Be focused and open up. Oh and smile. Nearly forgot.
Welcome to the awkward but sweet life of Gillian. I like to smile and am known for my random, disconnected thoughts. Not to worry, I’ve got some strong twine to tie things together.
Also, I love surprise alliteration in my sentences.
